JAMMU: The ticket checking staff of the Jammu Division of Northern Railway has once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to passenger service through their honesty and vigilance. Through the joint efforts of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the ticket checking staff, a bag belonging to a female passenger—containing valuable items—was safely recovered and handed back to her at Srinagar Railway Station.

Recounting the full sequence of events: on April 6th, a female passenger inadvertently left her bag behind at the entrance of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station. The bag contained gold jewelry, cash, and several important documents. The bag was discovered by the RPF staff on Train No. 26403, the Vande Bharat Express. The RPF staff immediately handed it over to the train’s ticket checking staff.

To locate the rightful owner of the bag, the checking staff on duty made public announcements three times while the train (No. 26403) was in motion, aiming to convey the information to the concerned passenger; however, they were unable to establish contact with the passenger at that time. Exercising their presence of mind, the train’s ticket checking staff—Shri Adil Hussain and Shri Akib Ahmed—traced the passenger’s mobile number and informed her about the bag. Upon reaching Srinagar, the female passenger approached the ticket checking staff at Srinagar Station and reported her lost bag.

Taking swift action, the ticket checking staff cross-referenced the recovered bag with the details provided by the passenger. After completing the verification process, the bag was safely handed over to the passenger. The passenger expressed her deep gratitude to both the Railways and the checking staff.

In a separate incident, a passenger traveling on the Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22478) inadvertently left their trolley bag behind at Kathua Railway Station after disembarking from the train. During this same period, Navdeep Antil (CCTC), an employee stationed at Kathua Railway Station, discovered a trolley bag. He immediately took secure custody of the bag and contacted the passenger. After completing the necessary verification process, the bag was handed over to the passenger, who expressed his gratitude to the railway employee.

Adding to this series of commendable and exemplary acts, on April 8th, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Uchit Singhal, honored members of the ticket-checking staff— Mandeep Kumar (Headquarters: Jammu), Monika (Headquarters: Pathankot), and Amit Kumar (Headquarters: Jammu)—with Certificates of Appreciation. These individuals were recognized for their unwavering dedication to duty, their outstanding performance, and their significant contribution to revenue generation through ticket checking.

Commenting on these praiseworthy actions, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal stated, “The Railways serves not merely as a means to transport passengers to their destinations, but is also fully committed to ensuring their safety and the security of their belongings. The promptness and integrity demonstrated by the ticket-checking staff of the Jammu Division are a matter of pride for the entire railway fraternity. In recognition of this commendable service, the ticket-checking staff of the Jammu Division has been honored with Certificates of Appreciation, an initiative intended to further boost their morale and motivation while performing their duties.”
