Udaipur, June 16 : In a major crackdown on food adulteration, authorities seized around 18,000 litres of suspected adulterated ghee and over 42,000 kilograms of butter, ghee, and other dairy products during raids conducted at multiple locations in Rajasthan’s Udaipur district.
The operation was carried out by a central enforcement team of the Food Safety Commissionerate following complaints regarding food adulteration and concerns over product quality. Joint inspections were conducted at two premises, including Shri Madhur Dairy Farm and Food Products, where officials discovered large quantities of ghee being manufactured, stored, and marketed under several brands.
According to Food Safety Commissioner Dr. T. Shubhamangala, the inspection revealed stocks of ghee sold under brand names such as Udaipur Fresh Desi Ghee, Udaipur Fresh Cow Ghee, Madhya Desi Ghee, and Jayant Cow Ghee. Authorities found ghee stored in tanks and containers, along with several tins lacking proper labels and mandatory product information, in violation of food safety norms.
During the raid, officials also recovered yellow food colouring, which is suspected to have been used to give the ghee the appearance of cow ghee. Samples of the seized products have been sent to the State Food Laboratory for analysis under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
To safeguard public health, authorities have prohibited the sale and distribution of the seized ghee pending laboratory test results.
In a separate inspection at another private company, officials found a stockpile exceeding 42,000 kg of ghee, butter, and various dairy products belonging to different brands. The origin, quality, and compliance status of these products are currently under investigation.
Officials said the raids underscore the government’s ongoing efforts to curb food adulteration and ensure that consumers receive safe and quality food products. Further action will be taken based on the laboratory findings and the outcome of the detailed investigation.
