Leh, May 07: Secretary, Public Works Department, Union Territory of Ladakh, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary on Wednesday reviewed the pace of construction of the Leh Bhawan and Kargil Bhawan projects in New Delhi and directed executing agencies to expedite pending works to ensure completion within stipulated timelines.
The review was conducted during a high-level meeting at the Conference Hall of Ladakh Bhawan in New Delhi, where the Secretary assessed the status of ongoing works in both physical and financial terms. Officials from the executing agencies submitted detailed progress reports, highlighting completed works, existing constraints and projected completion schedules.
During the meeting, Choudhary stressed the need for stronger coordination among departments and agencies involved in the execution of the projects. He called for strict adherence to approved timelines and instructed officials to address bottlenecks without delay to prevent any further slowdown in progress.
The Secretary observed that the Leh and Kargil Bhawans hold considerable public importance for the Union Territory and said timely completion of the projects was necessary to meet the expectations of the people of Ladakh.
Following the review meeting, Choudhary conducted on-site inspections of both project locations at Dwarka in New Delhi. He reviewed the progress of civil, electrical and allied infrastructure works and interacted with officials of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and PWD Ladakh stationed at the sites.
During the inspections, the Secretary issued on-the-spot directions to concerned engineers and officials to accelerate pending works and maintain continuous supervision over project execution. He also instructed officers to ensure that hurdles affecting construction activities are resolved on priority.
Emphasising accountability in project implementation, Choudhary directed that regular review mechanisms be institutionalised and responsibility be fixed at all levels to maintain execution standards and avoid delays.
Senior officials present during the meeting and inspections included the Chief Engineer, PWD Ladakh, Superintending Engineers of PWD Leh and Kargil, Executive Engineers of the Construction Divisions of Leh and Kargil, besides officers from CPWD and PWD Ladakh.
