CHANDIGARH, APR 18: Punjab Police on Saturday announced the dismantling of a cross-border drug smuggling module in Amritsar, arresting two individuals and seizing 64.62 kg of heroin from their possession.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav hailed the operation as a major success for the state government’s anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’. The Counter-Intelligence wing and State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar conducted the raid.
The accused, identified as Sarwan Singh alias Gujjar and Shamsher Singh alias Shera, both Amritsar residents, were found to have links with handlers in Portugal and smugglers based in Pakistan, according to preliminary investigations.
An FIR has been registered at Police Station SSOC, Amritsar, with further investigation ongoing.
