Zanskar, Mar 10: A one-day Postal Awareness Camp was organised at Akshow village in Tehsil Zanskar on Sunday to educate residents about government-backed postal savings and insurance schemes and expand financial outreach in remote areas.
The programme was conducted in compliance with directions of the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Zanskar, and was chaired by the Tehsildar Zanskar. The initiative aimed to familiarise villagers with services offered through Post Offices and encourage them to utilise formal financial instruments available under various postal schemes.
During the camp, officials and committee members explained the features and advantages of the Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) and Postal Life Insurance (PLI) schemes. Residents were informed about the role of these schemes in promoting secure savings and financial protection for families.
Addressing the gathering, the Tehsildar Zanskar elaborated on multiple financial products available through the Post Office network. He urged the residents to adopt savings habits and make use of government-backed insurance and deposit schemes to safeguard their future.
Participants were also sensitised about the importance of long-term savings and insurance coverage, particularly in rural and high-altitude regions where access to financial services remains limited.
To facilitate immediate enrolment, officials arranged on-the-spot registration during the camp. As many as 30 Post Office Savings Bank accounts were opened during the programme, while several other applications for account opening were received and are currently under process.
The event drew encouraging participation from local residents, with many villagers enrolling in the schemes during the awareness drive.
Officials said the initiative forms part of the administration’s continuing outreach to expand financial awareness and bring postal banking and insurance services closer to remote communities in Zanskar.
