Leh, Mar 10: A blood donation camp was successfully organised at the Women Empowerment Centre in Nimu, reinforcing the spirit of service and community welfare on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The initiative was conducted in collaboration with Sonam Norboo Memorial (SNM) Hospital, Leh.
The camp aimed at strengthening the region’s emergency healthcare support by replenishing the blood bank and ensuring the availability of lifesaving blood units for patients in need. Medical staff from the hospital supervised the donation process, ensuring that all procedures were carried out safely and efficiently.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from volunteers, including members of the local community and personnel associated with Fire and Fury Corps, reflecting a strong collective commitment towards supporting critical healthcare needs in the region.
Officials present at the camp highlighted that blood donation is one of the most valuable contributions an individual can make to society, as a single unit of blood can help save multiple lives in emergency situations such as accidents, surgeries and medical treatments.
Healthcare professionals from the hospital also conducted awareness interactions with participants, encouraging people to adopt regular blood donation as a social responsibility and an act of humanitarian service.
The organisers noted that such initiatives are particularly important in remote and high-altitude regions like Ladakh, where timely access to blood supplies can be crucial for saving lives. By organising community-driven programmes like this, authorities aim to build a stronger culture of voluntary blood donation while enhancing healthcare preparedness.
The successful camp not only replenished the blood bank but also strengthened the bond between the community and institutions working towards public welfare. Organisers expressed gratitude to all donors and volunteers for their generous participation and commitment to saving lives.
