Leh, Mar 20: In a major crackdown on property-related offences, Leh Police have solved a string of recent theft cases, apprehending all accused persons and recovering stolen property, officials said on Thursday.
The disclosures were made by ASP Headquarters Leh, Rishabh Shukla (IPS), during a press briefing attended by ASP Leh Regzin Sandup, SHO Police Station Leh, and the Incharge of Police Post Choglamsar.
Police sources said that a series of theft complaints lodged over the past few days were promptly converted into First Information Reports, triggering time-bound investigations. Acting on technical inputs and field intelligence, teams from Police Station Leh and Police Post Choglamsar launched coordinated operations, leading to the identification and arrest of suspects involved in two major theft cases.
“In one case, the investigation has reached its conclusion and the charge sheet is being finalised for presentation before the court. In another case, fresh leads resulted in the arrest of additional accused linked to the offence,” Shukla stated.
During the course of investigation, police rounded up two more suspects apart from the main accused, leading to further recoveries of stolen articles. Investigators are now probing the source of the recovered property and examining possible links with other unsolved theft cases.
Officials said the breakthrough was achieved through a combination of sustained surveillance, ground-level intelligence, and systematic follow-up of leads. In a case involving the theft of a laptop, where no CCTV footage was available, police relied on human intelligence and local informants. By liaising with electronics dealers and second-hand vendors, crucial leads were developed, ultimately resulting in the detection of the case.
To prevent recurrence of such offences, Leh Police have stepped up anti-crime measures across the district. These include intensified night patrolling, routine checking at vulnerable points, and increased surveillance in sensitive areas.
Police have also strengthened community policing initiatives through regular Police-Community Partnership Group meetings aimed at improving information flow and public cooperation.
Shukla appealed to the public to remain alert and report any suspicious movement or activity without delay, emphasising that timely inputs from citizens play a decisive role in crime detection.
Officials maintained that the successful detection of these cases reflects the focused approach of Leh Police towards tackling theft and safeguarding public property in the region.
