Leh, Mar 20: The district administration in Leh has tightened its regulatory grip on the supply and distribution of LPG, placing renewed emphasis on transparency, accountability, and structured monitoring. In a move aimed at ensuring equitable access and preventing misuse, the administration has stepped up oversight of both domestic and commercial LPG cylinders across the district.
The developments emerged during a review meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mukul Beniwal, IAS, at the Video Conference Room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. The meeting brought together key departments and stakeholders to assess existing mechanisms and introduce measures to reinforce monitoring and coordination.
At the outset, the chair highlighted the need for a disciplined and demand-driven distribution system. He observed that LPG allocation must be carried out in a fair and transparent manner, ensuring that supplies are aligned with actual requirements and reach legitimate consumers without diversion.
Discussions during the meeting centred on strengthening coordination among departments responsible for supply, regulation, and field-level monitoring. The administration stressed that effective communication and real-time oversight are essential to maintaining the integrity of the distribution network.
Ruth Mary, Assistant Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Leh, informed the meeting that kerosene continues to be provided to eligible beneficiaries under existing norms, supplementing household energy needs in remote areas.
Taking note of public concerns, particularly those linked to digital processes, the Additional Deputy Commissioner directed the establishment of a dedicated control room. The facility will address issues such as One-Time Password (OTP) failures and other grievances faced by consumers, ensuring quicker resolution and improved service delivery.
To further tighten supervision, the chair instructed all concerned officers to submit daily progress reports detailing distribution patterns and field observations. He also called for regular inspections to verify compliance and detect any irregularities in the use of LPG cylinders.
The emphasis on routine reporting and field verification reflects a broader administrative push to enforce accountability at every stage of the supply chain. Officials were asked to maintain close coordination to ensure that directives are implemented effectively and without delay.
The meeting concluded with a clear message on sustained vigilance, as the district administration moves to reinforce checks on the distribution of essential commodities and safeguard consumer interests across Leh.
