Gangtok, Apr 24: The Sikkim government has issued an advisory, asking tourists scheduled to leave Gangtok on April 28 to do so by 6 AM on that day, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme in the state capital.
The decision was taken in view of the security arrangements, which will be in place in Gangtok on April 28, officials said.
Modi is scheduled to reach Gangtok on April 27 and undertake a roadshow. He will attend a function at Paljor Stadium here the next day to mark the conclusion of the year-long celebrations of 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood.
“In view of the upcoming visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to Sikkim on 27th-28th April 2026, all tourists/visitors currently within the precinct of Gangtok, who are scheduled to depart on 28th April 2026, are requested to leave the station by 6.00 AM on that day, positively,” the advisory issued by the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department read.
Meanwhile, Sikkim Chief Secretary R Telang on Friday held a high-level meeting to review arrangements for the Prime Minister’s two-day visit to the state, officials said.
He carried out a comprehensive assessment of security preparedness, with detailed deliberations focusing on the need for seamless inter-agency coordination, meticulous planning, and strict adherence to established protocols.
All departments concerned made structured presentations before the top bureaucrat outlining various works being undertaken in preparation for Modi’s visit.
The presentations covered key areas including medical preparedness, resource deployment, contingency planning, and overall operational readiness, with a focus on ensuring timely execution and effective response mechanisms to address any exigencies during the visit.
The Director General of Police (DGP) Akshay Sachdeva and other senior officers of various departments attended the meeting.
