NEW DELHI, Feb 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday unleashed a blistering critique of the Congress party in Parliament, accusing it of harboring deep hatred manifested in abusive slogans like “Modi teri kabr khudegi” (Modi, your grave will be dug), even as he vowed to press ahead with people-centric welfare initiatives.
During his reply to the motion of thanks on President Droupadi Murmu’s address, Modi pointed out the hypocrisy of Congress leaders who tout “mohabbat ki dukan” (shop of love) while spewing venom. “I’m creating new opportunities for the youth, yet Congress plots to ‘dig Modi’s grave’,” he quipped, drawing laughs from the treasury benches.
Modi noted that since 2014, no Parliament session has been free of personal abuse against him, humorously crediting his stamina to “consuming two kgs of abuse daily.” He tied the vitriol to bold moves like scrapping Article 370 in J&K, Northeast development, Operation Sindoor against Pakistani terrorists, Maoist crackdowns, and suspending the “grave injustice” of the Indus Waters Treaty signed by Jawaharlal Nehru.
Dismissing Congress’s sense of entitlement to the PM’s chair as a “family fiefdom,” Modi contrasted their unfulfilled poverty pledges with his government’s successes: lifting 25 crore out of poverty, electrifying 18,000 villages, slashing bank NPAs below 1% for record profits, abolishing the inefficient Planning Commission (even criticized by Indira Gandhi for denying mule funds in hills), and completing Sardar Patel’s Narmada Dam vision.
Quoting Indira Gandhi’s own words, he slammed the Nehru-Gandhi family’s view of India’s population—from 35 crore under Nehru to 57 crore later—as mere “problems,” mocking their “jeep and mule” governance and inability to foster startups, let alone their “home-based one.”
On the global front, Modi highlighted recent trade pacts with the EU’s 27 nations and nine others, cementing India’s role in a shifting world order. He defended BJP MP Ravneet Singh Bittu from Rahul Gandhi’s “traitor” slur as anti-Sikh hatred, and backed nominated MP C Sadanandan Master—who revealed his artificial limbs in Rajya Sabha—blaming the INDI alliance for the violence that cost him his legs.
Declaring his government powered by 1.4 billion citizens rather than a dynasty, Modi asserted, “With the blessings of crores, they won’t dig my grave.” He reaffirmed the march toward Viksit Bharat.
