New Delhi, Jan 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Beating Retreat ceremony at Vijay Chowk on Thursday evening, marking the formal conclusion of Republic Day celebrations and paying tribute to India’s rich military heritage. The event showcased the discipline, traditions and valour of the armed forces, with performances by Army, Navy and Air Force bands blending patriotic and classical music into a solemn and stirring spectacle.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed that the ceremony began at 5:00 pm and serves as a dignified tradition to bring the Republic Day festivities to a close. The Delhi Traffic Police imposed restrictions from 4 pm to 6 pm on Vijay Chowk and key connecting roads, including Raisina Road, Krishna Menon Marg, Sunehri Masjid roundabout and Kartavya Path, advising commuters to use alternate routes such as Ring Road, Ridge Road, Aurobindo Marg and Safdarjung Road–Kamal Ataturk Marg.
