NEW DELHI, FEB 15: On the sacred occasion of Mahashivratri, one of Hinduism’s most revered festivals celebrated with fervent devotion across India, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended their warmest greetings to the nation, calling upon Lord Shiva’s divine grace to usher in prosperity, good health, and spiritual harmony for all citizens.
In a heartfelt message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked the benevolence of Adidev Mahadev, the primordial form of Lord Shiva, praying for his continued blessings upon every individual. “May his blessings bring prosperity to all, and may our India attain the pinnacle of prosperity,” Modi wrote, encapsulating a vision of national progress intertwined with spiritual upliftment. His words resonate deeply on this night of vigil and prayer, when millions fast, meditate, and offer bilva leaves at Shiva lingams, seeking moksha and worldly fulfillment.
Echoing this sentiment, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan highlighted the festival’s profound cultural and spiritual significance, tracing its vibrant celebrations from the ghats of Kashi—home to the Jyotirlinga Kashi Vishwanath—to the southern shores of Rameswaram, where ancient temples stand as testaments to Shiva’s eternal presence. “From Kashi to Rameswaram, this holy festival stands as a living symbol of India’s eternal and unbroken spiritual tradition,” Radhakrishnan posted on social media. He further invoked the divine couple, adding, “May the blessings of Mahadev and Mata Parvati bring happiness, prosperity, and good health to all.”
Mahashivratri, observed on the 14th night of the dark half of Phalguna, marks the cosmic dance of creation, preservation, and destruction embodied by Shiva, drawing lakhs of devotees to temples, melas, and riverbanks for all-night worship. The leaders’ messages underscore the festival’s role in fostering unity amid diversity, aligning personal piety with collective aspirations for a thriving India.
