Khaltsi, Mar 28: Government Degree College (GDC) Khaltsi organised a one-day awareness programme on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on Friday, with a focus on promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and awareness about the protection of intellectual assets among students.
The programme, conducted by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), sensitised participants to the growing importance of intellectual property in the modern economic landscape and its role in fostering business opportunities.
Addressing the gathering, Mohd. Shahid Khan, Convenor of the Education Committee, PHDCCI, highlighted the challenges in employability amid rapid technological changes. He stressed the need for communication skills, adaptability, and continuous learning, while outlining knowledge, skills, and attitude as the essential components for professional advancement. He also cautioned students about the risk of job displacement and urged them to upgrade their competencies.
Emphasising innovation-driven growth, the speaker encouraged students to identify gaps and develop practical solutions, noting that such initiatives could evolve into viable business ventures. He also pointed to emerging opportunities in technological creation, manufacturing, and trading, underscoring a gradual shift from job dependency towards entrepreneurship.
The session covered key aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and geographical indications. Detailed explanations were provided on their role in protecting innovation and enhancing brand value, along with procedures for patent and trademark registration.
Participants were further introduced to various IPR monetisation models such as licensing, franchising, and technology transfer, supported by relevant examples to aid understanding of real-world applications.
Earlier, the programme commenced with an introduction by Assistant Professor of English, Stanzin Stamdin, who also introduced the guest speaker. The Principal felicitated Mr. Khan with a traditional khatak as a mark of appreciation.
The programme concluded with a message emphasising the integration of innovation with protection mechanisms and strategic planning for sustained growth and value creation. A formal vote of thanks was delivered by Assistant Professor Stanzin Stamdin, acknowledging the efforts of the organisers and the guest speaker.
