Kargil, Mar 28: Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil on Friday commemorated Shaheed Divas with a mass singing of the national song “Vande Mataram,” marking 150 years of its legacy, as faculty members and students participated in large numbers.
Organised by the College Culture and Seminar Committee, the programme reflected collective remembrance of the sacrifices made by national heroes and highlighted the enduring cultural relevance of the national song. The event witnessed active engagement from the academic community, creating an atmosphere of unity and patriotic expression.
The programme was convened by Assistant Professor Nasir Ud Din Khafi in the presence of Principal Disket Angmo, who presided over the gathering. Participants paid tributes to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, recalling their sacrifices in the freedom struggle.
A mass rendition of “Vande Mataram” formed the central feature of the event, led by second semester students Kulsuma Banoo and Shahar Banoo. The performance was followed by slogan chanting, with participants holding national flags, further reinforcing the spirit of the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal appreciated the enthusiastic involvement of both students and faculty, noting the importance of such observances in fostering awareness of the nation’s history and shared values.
The programme concluded with participants expressing collective pride and reaffirming their commitment to the ideals represented by the national song and the legacy of the freedom movement.
