Kargil, Apr 25 : National Panchayati Raj Day was observed across Kargil district on Friday with widespread public participation, as Panchayats and administrative units organised a series of programmes aimed at reinforcing grassroots governance and community-led development.

Events were held across multiple blocks, including TSG, Apati-Sodh, Lotsum, Barsoo, Shargole and Kargil, alongside Panchayats such as Bhimbat, Chowkiyal, Shakar, Rambirpura, Pandrass, Mushkoo, Holiyal, Taisuru and Pashkum, reflecting a district-wide outreach.

The observance centred on Gram Sabhas, awareness campaigns and interactive sessions where officials and Panchayat representatives engaged directly with residents on pressing developmental concerns. Discussions focused on water management, employment opportunities and the implementation of rural development schemes, underscoring the administrative push towards participatory governance.

Speakers at various venues emphasised the role of Panchayati Raj Institutions in promoting transparency and accountability at the grassroots level. Community involvement in planning and execution of developmental initiatives remained a recurring theme, with officials urging citizens to take ownership of local governance processes.

Residents were briefed on the functioning of the Panchayati Raj system, while several local grievances were raised and addressed during the sessions. Participants also took a formal oath, pledging to contribute towards the development and integrity of their respective Panchayats.

Sanitation and public health formed an integral part of the observance, with pledges administered to promote cleanliness and hygiene. Dustbins were distributed under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), reinforcing efforts to strengthen sanitation infrastructure in rural areas.

The day-long programmes concluded with a collective resolve among stakeholders to pursue sustainable development, improve service delivery and ensure inclusive growth across the district, signalling a renewed focus on strengthening democratic institutions at the village level.
