KARACHI, Dec 9: A Hindu woman named Rani and her young daughter were allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint by three unidentified armed men in Karachi’s Sindh Mohalla area of Sher Shah on Saturday, sending ripples of fear through the local minority community.
Family members reported that the duo was forcibly bundled into a white Alto car immediately after the mother stepped outside their home. The incident has heightened tensions, with activists warning of rising threats against Hindu women in the region.
Activist Raises Alarm Over Forced Conversions
Civil rights advocate Shiva Kachi, representing Sindh’s Hindu community from his Mirpurkhas office, confirmed the victims remain missing. He expressed grave concerns that Rani faces forced conversion to Islam and marriage to one of the abductors—a pattern plaguing poor Hindu families. “We’ve filed an FIR, but the brazen daylight snatch by armed men is terrifying,” Kachi stated, urging senior police intervention.
Kachi revealed he’s receiving death threats from groups behind these abductions, yet persists in reporting cases despite personal risks and repeated pleas for security.
Second Narrow Escape in Umerkot
In a related incident, newlywed Hindu woman Bhagvi escaped a similar attempt in Umerkot city, Sindh. Traveling home with her husband to visit parents, she was targeted by armed assailants, but local intervention repelled the attackers, forcing their getaway. Community leaders decry the surge in such targeted kidnappings amid calls for stronger protection for vulnerable minorities.
