Jammu Dec 22: The Jammu and Kashmir cabinet on Monday took up a range of administrative and development related matters at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah with a proposed policy for allotment of land to flood affected families emerging as a central issue.
Official sources said the cabinet deliberated on a plan to provide five marlas of land to people who were rendered landless during floods with the objective of ensuring permanent rehabilitation and enabling affected households to reconstruct homes and restore livelihoods.
The meeting was attended by the council of ministers including Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary and ministers Sakina Itoo Javed Ahmed Rana Javid Ahmed Dar and Satish Sharma while Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo was also present.
Besides the rehabilitation proposal the cabinet examined other administrative measures covering financial assistance for cooperative banks and matters related to pay upgrades and redesignation of various posts in the government set up.
An official communication from the Chief Minister office said the cabinet considered issues of administrative and developmental importance reflecting the government focus on governance and economic support mechanisms.
The meeting assumed added importance as it marked continued cabinet level engagement in the winter capital Jammu following the resumption of the Darbar Move earlier this month. Omar Abdullah had chaired his first cabinet meeting in Jammu on December 3 after the seasonal shift of offices from Srinagar to Jammu.
