SRINAGAR, APR 18 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah in connection with a nearly three-decade-old case registered in Jammu and Kashmir, officials confirmed.
Shah was produced before Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Friday evening, which granted the agency three days of transit remand. He will be flown to Jammu and Kashmir and produced before a local court on Monday for further proceedings.
The case relates to FIR No. 192/1996, lodged at Shergarhi Police Station on July 17, 1996. According to investigators, the incident occurred during a funeral procession for slain terrorists when sloganeering allegedly escalated into violence, prompting armed terrorists to open fire and injure security personnel.
This development comes just weeks after Shah secured bail in two separate cases: first from the Supreme Court on March 12, 2026, in an NIA terror-funding case, and then from Patiala House Court on March 28, 2026, in a money laundering case
