New Delhi, Nov 16: The National Investigation Agency on Sunday detained a Kashmiri resident accused of helping a suicide bomber execute last week’s fatal car-borne blast near the Red Fort, an attack that left 10 people dead and 32 injured.
Officials said the arrested man, Amir Rashid Ali, was picked up in Delhi following an extensive manhunt launched after the NIA took over the probe from Delhi Police. The car used in the explosion had been registered in Ali’s name, prompting investigators to track his movements in the days leading up to the assault.
According to the agency, Ali, a resident of Samboora in Pampore, allegedly travelled to the capital to help acquire the vehicle that was later rigged with an improvised explosive device. Forensic analysis has confirmed that the driver of the explosive-laden car was Umar Un Nabi, an assistant professor at Al Falah University’s General Medicine Department and a resident of Pulwama. He is believed to have died in the detonation.
Investigators have also seized another vehicle belonging to Nabi and are examining it for clues. So far, 73 witnesses — including survivors of the November 10 blast — have been questioned as part of the widening inquiry.
The NIA said it is working with police forces in Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, along with other central agencies, to map out the broader network behind the attack. Multiple leads are being pursued under case number RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI as sleuths look to identify additional suspects and trace the origins of the plot.
