Leh, Apr 23 : Marking Earth Day, Government Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College in Leh on Wednesday organised a plantation drive within its campus, bringing together students, faculty and volunteers in a coordinated effort to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
The programme was conducted jointly by the NCC Unit of EJM College, NSS Unit, Department of Environmental Science and the 1 Ladakh Battalion NCC, Leh. A large number of saplings were planted across the campus as part of the initiative aimed at strengthening ecological balance and encouraging greener surroundings.
Guided by Principal Prof. Stanzin Yangdol, the drive underscored the role of educational institutions in fostering environmental responsibility. Addressing participants, she highlighted the need for sustained conservation efforts and urged students to take an active role in protecting natural resources.
The event was coordinated by ANO Lt. Dr. Ujwala Anandrao Koche, NSS Coordinator Dr. Tsering Chorol, AP Jigmat Wangmo and Head of the Department of Environmental Science, AP Sabina Bashir. Faculty members and staff extended full support to the programme, ensuring smooth execution.
Among those present were AP Rinchen Angmo, AP Dr. Nilza Angmo, Dr. Samina Rahman, AP Zahoor Hussain, AP Amjad Khan, Dr. Diskit Wangmo, AP Jaspreet, Sheeraj, Dr. Shewanshi, Dr. Shipra, AP Stanzin Padma, Tawsif, Dr. Tsering Norphal and AP Hazira Bano, alongside NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and students.
Organisers said the drive was designed not only to enhance the green cover of the campus but also to raise awareness about the importance of trees in addressing climate challenges. The programme concluded with a call for continued community participation in similar eco-conscious initiatives in the region.
