New Delhi, Oct 3: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that alleged narco-trafficker Navpreet Singh has been deported from Turkiye and brought back to India.
In a post on X, Shah said Singh had obtained Turkish citizenship using the alleged fake identity of Navab Virk and was involved in smuggling heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan to India.
Shah said Indian agencies traced Singh and established his identity before securing his deportation to India. He has since been taken into custody in connection with cases related to alleged drug trafficking and other crimes, he added.
Calling the development a significant achievement of the government, Shah congratulated the agencies involved in the operation.
He also reiterated the government’s stated commitment to dismantling narco-trafficking networks in the country by December 2029.
