Leh, May 26 : The Department of Physical Education at University of Ladakh successfully organised the Inter-Department Volleyball Tournament 2026 for men and women categories at the university volleyball ground in Leh, with the Department of MTTM and the Department of Botany emerging as champions in their respective categories.
The tournament, held on May 22 and 25, witnessed participation from 12 teams, including six boys’ teams and six girls’ teams representing various teaching departments of the university. The event drew enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, with teams displaying competitive spirit and disciplined teamwork throughout the competition.
In the men’s final played on Sunday, the Department of MTTM (Master of Tourism and Travel Management) defeated the Department of Economics in straight sets to secure the title. MTTM registered a hard-fought victory with scores of 25-22 and 25-23, relying on coordinated attacking play and strong defensive performances under pressure.
In the women’s category, the Department of Botany defeated the Department of Physical Education and Sports (BPES) to lift the championship trophy. Botany dominated the opening set 25-3 before edging past BPES 26-24 in a closely contested second set.
The final matches were attended by Dean Students Welfare Dr. Stanzin Mantok as the chief guest. Assistant Registrars Nawaz Ali and Jigmet Chondol were also present along with faculty members, staff and students.
Addressing participants during the closing ceremony, Dr. Mantok congratulated the winning teams and appreciated the Department of Physical Education for organising the tournament successfully. She highlighted the role of sports in promoting leadership qualities, discipline and holistic development among students.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony where trophies and certificates were presented to winners and runners-up. University officials said the tournament was organised under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha as part of efforts to strengthen sports culture and encourage student participation in co-curricular activities.
