New Delhi/Leh: Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jan, met Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, in New Delhi and raised key concerns related to Akashvani Kargil and the overall broadcasting infrastructure in Ladakh.
According to the MP, the meeting focused on administrative and infrastructure-related challenges being faced by Akashvani Kargil, along with the need to strengthen broadcasting facilities across the Union Territory to improve communication outreach in remote and border areas. The Union Minister reportedly assured that issues related to Akashvani and broadcasting infrastructure in Ladakh would be addressed at the earliest.
During the interaction, MP Haneefa Jan also reviewed the progress of the proposed Bilaspur–Manali–Leh railway line, recalling discussions held with the Minister earlier on the strategically important project.
The Bilaspur–Manali–Leh railway project has been identified as a strategic line by the Ministry of Defence, with surveys completed and a Detailed Project Report already prepared. The project, spanning roughly 489 km, is estimated to cost around ₹1.31 lakh crore and is aimed at improving connectivity to remote regions including Kargil and Leh.
The rail link is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and strengthen logistical and strategic reach in Ladakh, given the region’s difficult terrain and sensitive geographic location.
The MP expressed optimism after the meeting, stating that the assurances given by the Union Minister would help accelerate efforts to improve communication infrastructure and transport connectivity in Ladakh.
