New Delhi, Apr 25 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the reconstitution of NITI Aayog on Saturday, appointing Ashok Kumar Lahiri as vice chairman alongside five full-time members: economist K V Raju, AIIMS Director M Srinivas, Department of Science and Technology Secretary Abhay Karandikar, scientist Gobardhan Das, and former cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba.
In a post on X, Modi extended his best wishes for a “productive and impactful tenure” to Lahiri—a BJP MLA from West Bengal, former chief economic advisor, and 15th Finance Commission member—and the new members. Lahiri met with the Prime Minister later that day. Notably, he is not contesting West Bengal’s ongoing assembly elections.
Modi hailed NITI Aayog as a “vital pillar” in India’s policy-making, promoting cooperative federalism, reforms, and ‘Ease of Living.’ He described it as a “dynamic platform for innovation and long-term strategic thinking across sectors.” As NITI Aayog’s chairman, Modi leads the body.
