Jalandhar, Apr 25 : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers ransacked the house of former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh in Jalandhar, slapping the word “Gaddar” on its walls in protest against his decision to leave AAP for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with Raghav Chadha and five other MPs.
The incident followed the high‑profile defection of a seven‑member AAP bloc to the BJP, which the protesting supporters called a “betrayal” of Punjab’s people and the party’s anti‑corruption promise. AAP workers defying police directions and shouting slogans outside Singh’s residence, while police moved in to prevent further vandalism.
The political move has triggered intense backlash within AAP’s Punjab cadre, with leaders and workers warning that the “betrayal” will deepen internal crisis and spark more protests across the state. Security has been stepped up outside the homes of the defecting MPs amid fears of similar agitation.
