Leh, May 15 : In a move aimed at strengthening experiential learning in government schools, the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Leh on Thursday conducted a STEM Bus Lab programme at Middle School Sanker, bringing practical science and mathematics education directly to students through a mobile laboratory initiative.
The STEM Bus Lab was flagged off by Principal DIET Leh, Mirza Mehdi, in the presence of Head of Department Science, Tsering Yangdol. The initiative focuses on introducing middle school students to activity-based learning through interactive experiments and demonstrations aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE).
Addressing the gathering, Tsering Yangdol underlined the relevance of mobile science laboratories in contemporary education, stating that the initiative seeks to nurture scientific temper among students, particularly in schools lacking dedicated science and mathematics laboratories for middle standards.
She said the programme has been designed to bridge gaps in practical learning and encourage students to engage with scientific concepts through observation, experimentation and participation.
The academic team, led by Senior Lecturer Kunzes Dolma along with lecturers Rashida Parveen and Sona Disket, conducted a series of hands-on activities covering chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics based on the NCERT’s revised curriculum framework.
Students participated in live experiments and interactive sessions aimed at simplifying scientific principles and improving conceptual understanding through direct engagement.
Head of MS Sanker, Kunzes, appreciated the outreach initiative undertaken by DIET Leh and described the STEM Bus Lab as an effective educational intervention for schools with limited laboratory infrastructure. She also expressed interest in future academic collaborations and visits linked to DIET Leh’s educational programmes and best practices.
Officials associated with the initiative said the mobile laboratory programme is expected to cover more schools in the district in an effort to widen access to practical science education and strengthen classroom learning outcomes.
