SRINAGAR, Aug 7: The Meteorological Department (MeT) has forecast a fresh wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 10 days, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu division and the possibility of flash floods and landslides between August 9 and 11.
According to MeT officials, August 7 and 8 are likely to witness one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, with brief intense showers expected at a few locations.
From August 9 to 11, the weather department has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers at most places across the Union Territory. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in a few districts of Jammu division, while some districts of Kashmir division may experience brief but intense showers.
The department has also forecast intermittent light rain and thundershowers at many places from August 12 to 17, with isolated spells of intense rainfall.
Issuing an advisory for August 9–11, the MeT warned that torrential rain and intense showers could trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides and waterlogging in vulnerable and low-lying areas.
Residents have been advised to avoid visiting nallahs, landslide-prone areas and other vulnerable locations during the period, while district administrations and emergency agencies have been asked to remain on alert in view of the forecast.
