Drass, Oct 03: Government Degree College Drass successfully organized a “Meet the Expert” session for students enrolled in the High Altitude Trekking Guide Course, featuring Captain Pushya Mitra, Founder and Director of Tirupati Adventurous Trekkers, Tirupati Nature Society, and Tirupati Runners.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Principal Prof. Nasir Shabani, who presented traditional khatags to the distinguished guest and underscored the importance of professional trekking equipment in enhancing the Skill Centre’s capacity to provide safe and practical training in the region’s challenging terrain.
In his address, Captain Pushya Mitra shared his personal mountaineering experiences, shedding light on the technical and physical demands of high-altitude trekking. He also discussed the emerging prospects of adventure tourism as a professional pursuit, stressing the critical role of safety protocols and specialized gear for aspiring mountaineers.
A key highlight of the programme was the formal handover of high-altitude trekking equipment valued at ₹1.5 lakh, generously sponsored by Tirupati Adventurous Trekkers, to the college’s Skill Centre. The donated gear, which included ropes, harnesses, mountaineering shoes, caps, and other essential tools, is expected to significantly enhance hands-on training for students in alpine and expedition environments. Captain Mitra also conducted a practical demonstration of select equipment, providing students with first-hand insights into their proper usage.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Javed Mohammad Iqbal, UT Nodal Officer for Skill Courses, Ladakh, who expressed gratitude to all sponsors and contributors, including Suhail Ahmed, for facilitating the donation and ensuring the success of the event.
The initiative reflects a concerted effort to equip the next generation of mountaineers with both technical expertise and practical resources, reinforcing Government Degree College Drass as a centre for skill development in adventure tourism and high-altitude trekking.
