KOTTUR (VIJAYANAGAR) JAN 31 : In a chilling family tragedy, a man has allegedly murdered his father, mother, and sister and buried their bodies inside a rented house in Kottur town of Vijayanagara district. The crime is believed to have taken place on January 27.
The accused has been identified as Akshay Kumar, a resident of Doddakittadahalli village in Hosadurga taluk of Chitradurga district. The victims are his father Bhimaraj (around 50), mother Jayalakshmi alias Jayamma (about 45), and sister Amrutha (17). The family had been living in a rented house in Kottur for several years and was engaged in small‑scale work, including running a re‑button accessories shop.
After allegedly killing his family members inside the rented house, Akshay is said to have buried their bodies on the premises to conceal the crime. He then travelled to Bengaluru and went to Tilak Nagar police station to lodge a missing‑persons complaint about his parents and sister, claiming they had disappeared.
During sustained questioning, police grew suspicious and subjected him to further interrogation. Akshay reportedly broke down and confessed to the triple murder, giving contradictory statements about where he had disposed of the bodies—first saying they were dumped near Sandur and later admitting they were buried inside the rented house.
Vijayanagara Superintendent of Police S Jahnavi, Kudligi DySP Mallesh Doddmani, and a team of investigators, including forensic experts and a dog squad, have visited the crime scene in Kottur and are conducting a detailed probe. Authorities are now preparing to exhume the bodies from the rented house to confirm the exact sequence of events.
The motive behind the killings has not yet been established, and police have said further investigation is underway. The case has sent shockwaves across the region, with locals describing it as one of the most gruesome family murders in recent memory.
