Kargil, Apr 28 : Polling for the Ladakh University Student Union (LUSU) Kargil Campus Election 2025–26 concluded on Monday with a voter turnout of 72.21 per cent, reflecting active student participation in the campus electoral process.
The voting exercise, held at the University of Ladakh’s Kargil Campus, remained peaceful throughout the day and adhered strictly to the notified schedule. Polling commenced at 9:30 AM and closed at 2:00 PM without any reported disruption.
Out of 403 registered voters, 291 cast their ballots, indicating a strong engagement among students in campus governance. Officials overseeing the process described the turnout as encouraging and indicative of a growing democratic culture within the institution.
The election process was conducted under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Saket Kushwaha, with administrative supervision by Dr. Mehboob Ali. Observers Dr. Ghulam Ali and Dr. Imtiyaz Hussain monitored proceedings, while Dr. Shriprakash Pal led the election management.
Authorities maintained that the polling was conducted with due emphasis on transparency and security, ensuring the integrity of the electoral exercise. Election duty staff were deployed across designated stations to facilitate smooth voting.
Following the close of polling, arrangements were set in motion for the counting of votes, scheduled to begin at 2:15 PM in the designated strong room. Preliminary results from the first two rounds are expected between 2:15 PM and 3:30 PM, with the final declaration slated for 3:30 PM at the Conference Hall of the Residential Block.
The newly elected student representatives are scheduled to take oath later in the afternoon at 4:00 PM at the same venue.
University officials acknowledged the cooperation extended by students, faculty, candidates and polling personnel, noting that the orderly conduct of elections underscores the institution’s commitment to participatory governance and student representation.
