KARGIL : In a renewed push to strengthen youth engagement and institutional support for the National Cadet Corps in Kargil, Lt Col Sangram Singh, Commanding Officer of the 2 Ladakh Battalion NCC, visited Government Higher Secondary School Barsoo on Monday, where he reviewed cadet activities, inaugurated sports facilities, and assured continued backing for NCC units in schools.
The officer was received at the campus by Vice Principal Lt Ali Haider, the NCC officer of the institution, along with staff members. A ceremonial guard of honour presented by cadets marked the beginning of the visit, reflecting the discipline and training standards maintained by the unit.
Accompanied by Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Kunzang and other NCC personnel, Lt Col Sangram Singh inaugurated a table tennis facility in the school’s sports hall, provided by the 1 Ladakh Battalion NCC Leh. The initiative is expected to strengthen sports infrastructure and encourage wider student participation in physical activities.
During his interaction with cadets and students in the lecture hall, the Commanding Officer commended their performance in drills and extracurricular activities. He urged young students to enrol in the NCC, describing it as a platform for character-building and leadership development. He also distributed prizes among cadets who had distinguished themselves in various activities.
The event was attended by Councillor Shaikh Mohammadi, who welcomed the visiting officer and underlined the importance of institutional support for youth programmes in the region.
Lt Col Sangram Singh also inspected the NCC office at the school and held discussions on improving the functioning of NCC units, assuring that necessary assistance would be extended wherever feasible.
In his closing remarks, Vice Principal Lt Ali Haider expressed gratitude to the visiting officer, the councillor, parents, Village Education Committee members, and staff for their participation and support in organising the program.
