Amreli (Gujarat), Jul 9 : A 21-year-old man died after being attacked by a lion in Gujarat’s Amreli district, a forest official said on Thursday.

Sohail Munjawar, a resident of Amreli, was killed by the wild animal in the Antaliya revenue area near the Luvariya Reserve Forest on Wednesday evening, Deputy Conservator of Forests Chirag Amin said.

Citing a preliminary probe, Amin said it is suspected that the lion attacked the victim after he and his friend disturbed the big cat while it was mating with a lioness.

A detailed investigation into the matter is underway, he said.

The male lion, aged 9-12, was later captured by the forest department as part of a rescue operation.

The victim’s body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination, the forest official said.
