SRINAGAR, Jul 28: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday visited the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, to meet the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims injured in the Ganderbal bus accident and review the medical care being provided to them.
The Lieutenant Governor interacted with the injured devotees, enquired about their health, and held discussions with doctors and hospital authorities on their treatment. He directed the Health Department and SKIMS administration to ensure the best possible medical care, timely treatment, and all necessary assistance to the injured pilgrims.
SKIMS Director Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Ganie briefed the Lieutenant Governor on the condition of the patients, informing him that specialist teams are closely monitoring the injured and providing advanced medical care.
Senior officials, including Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi, DIG North Kashmir Rajiv Pande, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, and other civil and police officers, accompanied the Lieutenant Governor during the visit.
Earlier in the day, Sinha had spoken to the Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, and senior health officials to review the situation and directed authorities to ensure prompt rescue, evacuation, and treatment of the injured.
The accident occurred near Hariganiwan in Gund when an Amarnath Yatra bus reportedly lost control and plunged into a gorge, leaving 39 pilgrims injured. They were initially shifted to Sub-District Hospital Kangan before being referred to SKIMS Soura for specialised treatment.
Officials said all the injured pilgrims remain under medical observation, while police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
