Jammu, Apr 9: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting to assess preparations for the 100-day intensive campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, aimed at wiping out drug abuse in the Union Territory.
The drive will feature high-impact awareness programs. Sinha will flag off a mega “Padyatra” from MA Stadium, Jammu, on April 11, 2026, with a similar launch in Srinagar in early May.
Emphasizing mass participation from students, youth, NCC, NSS, Scouts & Guides, volunteers, civil society, political parties, public representatives, and the general public, Sinha stated: “The influx of drugs into J&K is part of an international conspiracy to ruin our youth’s future. Every section of society must join this fight.”
He directed continuous drives to dismantle trafficking networks, adding, “‘Don’t Touch the Innocent and Don’t Spare the Culprit’ is our policy. Identify real victims and commit to their rehabilitation.”
Discussions covered planned activities, department-wise calendars, and UT/Divisional Level Committees for IEC campaigns. Sinha urged turning it into a Jan Andolan, integrating public suggestions, feedback, and encouraging reports of drug abuse cases.
Attendees included Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Special DG (Coordination) S.J.M. Gillani, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary to LG Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Sarmad Hafeez, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi, DIGs, Deputy Commissioners, SSPs, and other seniors.
