Leh, Apr 21 : A series of educational and cultural programmes were organised across Leh and Zanskar to mark World Heritage Day, with institutions and cultural centres engaging students and local communities in efforts to promote awareness on heritage conservation.
At Army Goodwill School Farona and Government Degree College Padum, lectures, quizzes and skits formed the core of the observance, focusing on the importance of cultural heritage and identity. Students participated in interactive sessions and performances designed to deepen their understanding of the need to preserve traditional knowledge and practices.
Parallel activities were held at Hanu Museum, Hanuyokma, where a restoration drive, exhibition of artefacts and cultural performances drew attention to the region’s historical legacy. The display of artefacts offered visitors a glimpse into the cultural continuum of the area, while performances reflected living traditions that continue to shape local identity.
Officials associated with the programmes said the coordinated initiatives across educational institutions and cultural spaces were aimed at fostering a sense of responsibility among the younger generation towards safeguarding heritage. The outreach also sought to bridge academic engagement with community participation in conservation efforts.
Observed globally on April 18, World Heritage Day underscores the need to protect cultural and historical assets. In Ladakh, the day’s observance extended beyond symbolic events, reflecting a broader effort to reinforce awareness and encourage sustained community involvement in preserving the region’s diverse heritage.
