Kargil, Apr 19 : The Drass Police have been commended by Councillor Abdul Wahid of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, for their recent enforcement action against the illegal liquor trade and their response to emergency situations along the Zojila axis, according to an official letter issued on April 17.
In the communication, the councillor recorded appreciation for what he described as swift and coordinated police action that led to the arrest of four individuals allegedly involved in the sale and possession of illicit liquor. The operation, carried out on the basis of specific inputs, involved raids at multiple locations, reflecting what the letter terms as efficiency and alertness on the part of Police Station Drass.
The letter also draws attention to the role of the Drass Police during a recent incident at Zojila, where severe weather conditions and a snow avalanche resulted in casualties and left several passengers stranded. The police were credited with initiating prompt rescue measures and assisting affected travellers under adverse terrain and weather conditions.
Referring to the broader functioning of the Ladakh Police, the councillor noted that such interventions demonstrate professionalism and commitment to public service, particularly during the winter season when movement along the Zojila stretch remains vulnerable to disruptions. The communication acknowledges continued assistance provided by the police to travellers navigating the route during challenging conditions.
The councillor further expressed the expectation that enforcement measures against illegal liquor and drug-related activities would continue, emphasising the need for sustained vigilance in maintaining public order. The letter states that such policing efforts contribute to reinforcing public confidence in law enforcement agencies.
Reiterating public support, the communication appeals to citizens to cooperate with the police in their ongoing efforts. It concludes with a note of appreciation for the personnel of Police Station Drass, recognising their service and dedication in both enforcement and emergency response duties.
