New Delhi, Feb 1: The Union government has proposed a total allocation of Rs 4,869.31 crore for the Union Territory of Ladakh in the Union Budget for the financial year 2026-27, announced on Sunday.
This comes against the backdrop of the previous year’s allocations. In the original Budget for 2025-26, Ladakh was granted Rs 4,692.15 crore. However, the revised estimates for the same year pushed the total to Rs 7,377.43 crore, comprising Rs 5,029 crore for revenue expenditure and Rs 2,347.73 crore for capital outlay.
Budget documents released today provide a detailed breakdown for the upcoming 2026-27 fiscal. Of the Rs 4,869.31 crore proposed, Rs 2,542.26 crore is earmarked for revenue expenditure to support ongoing administrative and operational needs. Meanwhile, Rs 2,327.05 crore has been allocated for capital expenditure, aimed at infrastructure development and long-term growth projects in the region.
This funding underscores the government’s continued commitment to the development of Ladakh, a strategically vital Union Territory facing unique challenges like harsh terrain and limited connectivity. Officials note that these allocations will help address key priorities such as improved road networks, power supply enhancements, and tourism infrastructure, which are critical for economic stability.
The budget proposals were presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman amid broader discussions on fiscal federalism and support for Union Territories post the abrogation of Article 370.
