LEH: In a move aimed at transforming the technical education landscape, the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh has constituted a UT Level Steering Committee to implement the “Upgradation of ITIs through Hub-and-Spoke Model” as a part of the ambitious Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM SETU) Scheme. This landmark directive promises a major boost to skill development and industry collaboration in the region.
The newly formed Steering Committee will provide strategic leadership and coordinate efforts at the state level, aligning the ITI Upgradation Scheme with Ladakh’s industrial and educational priorities. The committee’s mandate includes reviewing and recommending cluster-level Strategic Investment Plans, monitoring the progress of civil works, equipment procurement, and curriculum rollout, as well as ensuring that specialized technical and financial criteria are consistently met. Through quarterly reviews, the committee is expected to resolve operational challenges and keep industry participation on track, while ensuring timely releases of funds from the UT’s share.
A major facet of the committee’s work will be to strengthen inter-departmental convergence, bringing together agencies like Skill Development, Industries, Education, and Labour to provide integrated support for the scheme.
Facilitating collaboration between government, industry, and academia, the committee will serve as an active platform for updating curricula and promoting sector-specific innovation.
Regular reports, cluster approvals, and funding requests will be routed to the National Steering Committee, ensuring Ladakh remains in sync with national policy directions and secures flexibility as needed for local priorities.
Digital systems rollout represents another key responsibility, as the committee will oversee capacity building initiatives and adopt advanced platforms such as the Learning Outcome Management System for monitoring student feedback and educational results.
The committee’s broad terms of reference ensure stakeholder engagement, address implementation bottlenecks, and maintain close liaison with the national authorities.
This high-level body is expected to drive the upgradation process with a focus on timely, outcome-driven execution, marking a transformative step for skill development, youth employability, and industrial growth in Ladakh.
