KARGIL: An engaging interactive session spotlighting employment and entrepreneurial avenues in the Solar Sector for Ex-Servicemen was held Tuesday at the Cooperative Department’s Conference Hall in Kargil.
Chaired by Bhanu Prabha, Administrative Secretary of Technical Education & Skill Development Department, Ladakh, the event drew key attendees including Additional Deputy Commissioner Imteeaz Kacho, Captain (IN) A.K. Pawar (Zila Sainik Welfare Officer), Power Development Department officials, and other stakeholders.
Bhanu Prabha emphasized the critical role of targeted skill training in boosting employability for ex-servicemen, their spouses, and children.
She proposed a 45-day region-specific Solar Technician Course, leveraging Ladakh’s vast solar energy potential.
She revealed plans to train approximately 1,000 candidates district-wide through diverse vocational programs including solar technology, tailoring, bakery, mushroom cultivation, plumbing, and electrical works to foster self-reliance.
Additionally, 12 model villages have been earmarked for solar project rollout, promising major strides in sustainable regional development.
Bhanu Prabha also interacted with the participants, clarifying their queries related to training, employment, and future prospects in the renewable energy sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Imteeaz Kacho expressed gratitude to Ms. Bhanu Prabha for organising such a meaningful initiative, stating that the coordination between the district administration and ex-servicemen has always been commendable. He said that ex-servicemen consistently support national events and official programmes, and now through these training schemes, they will further enhance their skills. He added that such courses are beneficial not only for the ex-servicemen but also for their families, helping them to become more skilled, independent, and self-reliant.
He further remarked that the Indian Army is known for its discipline, and wherever ex-servicemen serve, be it in government or private sectors, they set an example of dedication and commitment. “Now, through these training courses, they will enrich their skills and continue leading disciplined and productive lives,” he said.
Captain (IN) A.K. Pawar, Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, Kargil, informed that around 100 ex-servicemen and dependents attended the session, and 68 participants volunteered on the spot for training under solar projects. He stated that this initiative of the Technical Education & Skill Development Department will go a long way in promoting local technical expertise, as presently such services are often outsourced to technicians from other regions during the winter season.
