Kulgam, May 2 : In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Kulgam Police have dismantled an inter-state drug network and attached illegally acquired property worth ₹92.73 lakh at Beli Charana in Jammu, officials said.

The action follows a case registered on March 20, 2026, when a police team from Qazigund Police Station apprehended a suspect during routine patrolling at Kurigam near the Railway Station Qazigund. The accused, identified as Mohammad Rafiq Mir of Panzinara, Srinagar, was found carrying around 16 grams of heroin, commonly known as brown sugar.

An FIR (No. 43/2026) under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act was registered, and investigation was launched.

During interrogation, Mir disclosed that the contraband had been sourced from Bagh Hussain Kasana, a resident of Channore Basti Gajansu, Jammu, currently residing at Nikki Tawi. Acting on the information, police secured a search warrant and conducted a raid at his residence, recovering 265 grams of heroin-like substance.

Following this, Section 29 of the NDPS Act was invoked, and Kasana was arrested on March 22, 2026.

Investigations revealed that Kasana was actively involved in inter-state drug trafficking, supplying narcotics to various parts of the Kashmir Valley for monetary gain. Police also found that he had no legitimate source of income and had been engaged in drug peddling for a considerable period. He is currently lodged in District Jail Anantnag.

A financial probe by the investigating team led to the identification and attachment of immovable assets acquired through drug proceeds at Beli Charana, Jammu. These include land worth approximately ₹71.52 lakh and a residential house valued at around ₹21.21 lakh.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary, reaffirmed the police’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and taking strict action against those involved in narcotics trade. He also urged the youth to stay away from drugs and appealed to the public to share information related to drug trafficking, assuring confidentiality.

Kulgam Police reiterated its resolve to eradicate the drug menace, emphasizing that strict legal action will continue against offenders with active public cooperation playing a crucial role in building a drug-free society.
