Jammu, Dec 14: Shiv Sena Hindustan on Sunday accused the administration of neglect and failure of duty towards impoverished families living in Purkhu Camp and demanded immediate remedial action. The party said several households falling below the poverty line were allegedly being denied statutory welfare benefits due to the non-issuance of BPL cards, leaving them vulnerable to hunger and deprivation.
Addressing media persons after a meeting held in the camp, Jammu Kashmir unit president Pandit Rajesh Kesri said the continued exclusion of eligible families from welfare rolls reflected administrative apathy. He stated that many residents survive on daily earnings ranging between rupees one hundred and two hundred, yet remain outside the ambit of food security and social assistance schemes due to procedural lapses.
Kesri asserted that the government was legally and morally bound to ensure access to essential services such as ration, education and healthcare for economically weaker sections. He demanded that authorities fast track verification and issuance of BPL cards and extend benefits under existing government schemes without further delay, warning that continued inaction could amount to denial of basic rights.
During the interaction, the party leadership also raised concerns over the growing drug abuse problem and appealed to local youth to stay away from narcotics, cautioning that addiction often leads to crime, social breakdown and ruined livelihoods.
The meeting was attended by several party functionaries and local residents, including women and young people from the camp, who reiterated their grievances and sought administrative intervention to safeguard their welfare and dignity.
