LEH DEC 13: A joint coordination meeting on fog preparedness was held on Saturday at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee (K.B.R.) Airport, Leh, to review operational readiness in view of possible flight disruptions during the winter season.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), various airlines, Air Traffic Control (ATC), and the Indian Air Force Meteorological Department (IAF MET).
The meeting focused on assessing preparedness measures to effectively manage potential flight delays or cancellations arising due to foggy weather conditions, which are common during the winter months in the region.
Emphasis was laid on timely dissemination of accurate weather forecasts by the IAF MET Department to enable better planning and decision-making by airlines and airport authorities.
Detailed discussions were held on strengthening coordination among all stakeholders to ensure smooth airport operations despite adverse weather conditions.
Passenger facilitation and management during delays were highlighted as key priorities, with officials stressing the importance of clear communication, timely updates, and adequate support services to minimize inconvenience to travelers.
Airlines were advised to keep passengers well-informed regarding flight status, while airport authorities were urged to ensure proper deployment of manpower for crowd management and assistance at the terminal.
CISF officials assured continued support in maintaining security and orderly passenger movement during peak hours or unforeseen disruptions.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on adopting a proactive and coordinated approach to handle fog-related challenges, ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and hassle-free movement of passengers at K.B.R. Airport, Leh.
All participating agencies reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination and preparedness to mitigate the impact of weather-related disruptions during the winter season.
