JAMMU, May 26: Police on Tuesday attached immovable property worth about Rs 1.25 crore belonging to an alleged drug peddler in Kathua district under provisions of the NDPS Act, officials said.
The seized assets — shops and a dhaba at Chapper Morh in Hiranagar — belong to Sudesh Mehta, son of Parkash Chand of Chapper village. During the probe, investigators found the property was prima facie purchased with proceeds from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, police said.
The attachment was executed under relevant sections of the NDPS Act in the presence of officials from the Revenue, Public Works and Roads & Buildings departments. Police said the action targets the financial networks of drug traffickers and reaffirmed their commitment to intensify the crackdown on narcotics. Local residents welcomed the move as a significant step against the drug menace.
