JAMMU, JUN 10 : The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has operationalised an integrated road maintenance system that combines AI-based road monitoring with a ₹1.3 crore cold emulsion pothole patching machine to ensure scientific and timely repairs of damaged roads across Jammu city.
The initiative was showcased during a live media demonstration on Tuesday. Commissioner, JMC, Dr. Devansh Yadav said the corporation has adopted a technology-driven and proactive approach to road maintenance ahead of the monsoon season.
Under the new system, specially equipped municipal vehicles fitted with AI-enabled cameras have been deployed to continuously monitor roads across the city. The artificial intelligence platform automatically identifies potholes and other road defects, geo-tags their locations and generates digital reports for engineering teams.
The identified sites are then repaired using the cold emulsion pothole patching machine, enabling quick, durable and all-weather restoration of damaged road surfaces.
Dr. Yadav said the integration of AI-based detection with mechanised repair technology would significantly reduce the gap between the identification and rectification of road defects, thereby improving road safety, enhancing commuter comfort and minimising monsoon-related damage.
Beyond pothole detection, the AI platform is capable of identifying a wide range of civic issues, including garbage accumulation on roads, overflowing dustbins, waterlogging, open manholes, open drains, damaged pavements, faded road markings, illegal parking, encroachments, stray cattle, and construction and demolition waste dumping.
Officials said the initiative marks a major step towards smart urban governance, enabling quicker response and more efficient management of municipal services across Jammu city.
