Jammu, June 19: The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) has officially announced the appointment of former cricketers Abdul Qayoom Bagaw, Vidya Bhaskar and Meenu Singh Slathia as members of its Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) for the 2025-26 season. The appointments take immediate effect.
Abdul Qayoom retains his position for a fifth consecutive term, bringing with him a wealth of experience and dedication that has defined his post-retirement involvement with the sport. Vidya Bhaskar, a fresh entrant into the committee, joins with an impressive track record as both player and selector. Meenu Singh Slathia, who replaced Dr Roopali Singh Slathia last season, also continues her tenure following an impactful year.
Qayoom, revered for his mastery with the ball and endurance on the field, was known for swinging the ball both ways and delivering lengthy, match-defining spells. His prowess earned him the nickname ‘Horse’ during his Ranji Trophy days, often bowling relentlessly for his team. A veteran of 48 first-class matches, he claimed 152 wickets, with a best of 7/57. Under his captaincy, Jammu & Kashmir reached the knockout stage of the Ranji Trophy for the first time in 2000-01. As Head Coach in 2013-14, he guided the team to replicate that success.
Vidya Bhaskar, also a former captain of the J&K Ranji side, is celebrated for his steady performances with the bat, scoring over 2100 runs including three centuries. He later served as Chief Selector and was instrumental in Jammu & Kashmir’s historic triumph over Mumbai in their own backyard, propelling the team into the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals. His tenure has seen consistent success, including multiple knockout qualifications for the U-23 team.
Meenu Singh Slathia, widely admired for her all-round abilities, has left an indelible mark on women’s cricket in the region. Having represented both Punjab and J&K, Meenu’s 181 off 88 balls remains a standout in her career. She was also part of the gold-winning team at the National School Games in Bhopal and has donned multiple roles as coach and mentor. Under her guidance, the JKCA senior women’s team qualified for the knockout stage in the 2021-22 BCCI One-Day Trophy — a historic achievement.
As the new season approaches, the trio’s blend of experience, leadership and commitment is expected to bring continuity and renewed energy to JKCA’s cricketing roadmap. Their appointment reflects the Association’s focus on building a stronger foundation through the wisdom of those who’ve been at the forefront of the game in the region.
