JAMMU MAR 19: Jammu and Kashmir Police, under DGP Nalin Prabhat, rolled out a smart new playbook against mountain terror—forming elite Snow Leopards for snowy high ridges and Markhor units to own dense forests and tough terrains that terrorists long used as hideouts in Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur, and Kathua.
Trained with Andhra’s Greyhounds and top army squads in jungle warfare and endurance, these crack teams turned the tide: after 2023-24 attack spikes, incidents plunged by 2025 through better intel, domination, and quick kills, bringing safety back to remote villages.
DGP Prabhat recently told recruits the fight’s now in the wilds—”we’re pushing up to smash their regrouping and evil plans from across the border,” citing last year’s Operation Mahadev where cops hunted down three Pakistani killers deep in forests for the Baisaran massacre of 26 civilians.
