SRINAGAR, Dec 26: Police have arrested a 27-year-old man from Pampore in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district and recovered Fake Indian Currency Notes worth ₹86,000 from his possession, officials said on Friday.
The accused has been identified as Akeel Majeed, a resident of Kadalbal, Pampore. He was apprehended by Pampore police during a routine check, a senior police officer confirmed.
During the search, police recovered 172 fake currency notes of ₹500 denomination, amounting to ₹86,000, the officer added. All the seized notes were counterfeit Indian currency.
A case under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered at Police Station Pampore, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended use of the fake currency, the officer said.
