Srinagar, Dec 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police initiated a comprehensive enforcement campaign on Friday targeting vehicles operating without updated ownership transfer documents following a sale or purchase, seeking to curb potential misuse of outdated or out-of-state registrations.
The special drive spanned multiple districts across the Kashmir Valley, where police teams set up checkpoints to scrutinize vehicles for compliance with mandatory transfer requirements. Authorities focused on impounding those still registered under previous owners or displaying non-local plates without proper authorization, conducting thorough document verifications on the spot.
This initiative aligns with an ongoing crackdown on traffic infractions and documentation lapses, aiming to modernize vehicle records, eliminate risks from unregistered transfers, and bolster overall road safety standards in the region. Officials emphasized that proper paperwork prevents fraud, insurance issues, and enforcement gaps that could endanger public safety.
Several vehicles were intercepted and seized during the checks for lacking essential ownership papers or valid permits.
