Jammu, Feb 19: In a significant breakthrough for security forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police alongside Army personnel arrested a local man caught red-handed with a cache of illegal foreign-made pistols, loaded magazines, and live ammunition during a routine joint patrol in the sensitive Nowshera belt of Rajouri district.
The operation unfolded in the Raipur area, where the suspect—identified as Sachin Kumar, a resident of Sair village in Nowshera—came under scrutiny during heightened vigilance along this volatile border sector. A thorough search of his person and belongings revealed two high-quality pistols manufactured in Turkey and China, four detachable magazines, and 15 live rounds, all seized without any valid documentation, licenses, or permits to justify possession.
This haul raises alarms about illicit arms smuggling networks potentially infiltrating the region, which has witnessed sporadic militant activity and cross-border tensions. Authorities have registered a case at Police Station Nowshera under relevant sections of the Arms Act and other applicable laws, launching a full-scale investigation to trace the weapons’ origin, intended recipients, and any larger syndicate involvement.
Rajouri’s Nowshera sector remains a hotspot due to its proximity to the Line of Control, where joint cordon-and-search operations have intensified post recent intelligence inputs. The arrest underscores ongoing collaborative efforts between police and military to dismantle terror financing and arms proliferation, ensuring civilian safety in these frontier zones. Further updates are expected as interrogations progress.
