Jammu, Mar 14: The Directorate of Geology and Mining in Jammu and Kashmir has hit pause on several Mineral Dealer Licences (MDLs), leaving traders in Jammu and Samba districts stunned as they face a one-month suspension or until they fix serious compliance issues.
Director S.P. Rukwal, KAS, issued the order after a monitoring committee flagged breaches of the 2016 Minor Mineral Concession Rules—meant to keep stocking, selling, and trading of minor minerals legit. Dealers caught in the net include familiar names like M/S Mahavir Minerals, M/S Baba Chemicals, Harshit Magotra, Joginder Singh, Rahil Choudhary, Digvijay Singh, Asha Devi, Raman Choudhary, and Sham Lal Mogotra.
For these firms and individuals, business grinds to a halt amid allegations of skirting rules on storage, transport, and sales. Officials stress this is about tightening oversight to curb illegal mining and ensure fair play across the Union Territory—though affected dealers now scramble to prove compliance and get back on track.
